LGBT Community Heritage

The heritage of the LGBT community has been suppressed, neglected or ignored. OurStory Scotland is rescuing our heritage - the culture, history and support that we have inherited from the LGBT community in Scotland.

Our heritage includes the stories of our lives, as told through oral history or in storytelling, and all the materials and artefacts that we collect and archive. It incorporates records and first-hand accounts of LGBT activism, associations and support. The neglected times and spaces of our heritage are traced through mapping the past, and we celebrate our artistic heritage, including drama, exhibitions and the various visual, aural and verbal works of art through which we make sense of our lives. A useful reminder of our rich and varied heritage is provided by a timeline of OurStory, that gives recognition to the diverse histories of Scotland.
